The OCIC held our second quarter Trustee Meeting on Tuesday, June 18th at South Beach Resort with food provided by Bistro 163. The meeting included an update on OCIC initiatives including the 2024 BR&E Survey Results, JobsOhio Small Business Grant, the Genoa Industrial Site, Advanced Air Mobility, and the inaugural TRU Safety Conference.
24 of 25 Skilled Trades Academy students obtained their MSSC CPT Certifications and have secured employment after high school. Graduation was held for the STA and STNA programs with over 200 students, parents and partners in attendance. Special awards were given to three students: Joy Roth Spirit Award, Phoenix Award and the Bill Hutchisson Leadership Award.
Through our Comprehensive Community Development strategy, conversations and meetings are being held regarding the NWOH Safety Action Plan, the US-23 & SR-4 Connector Study, housing and child care.
Shea McGrew, Director of the Ottawa County Community Foundation (OCCF), spoke about the purpose of the OCCF and the projects they’ve supported the last 25 years. Grants from unrestricted funds support a variety of programs and services throughout Ottawa County, with the focus on making the maximum positive effort for our community. The OCCF is now accepting grant applications for 2024-25. OCCF grants support special projects in the fields of education, health and social services, economic development, natural resources and the arts.
Lisa Daris, Executive Director of the Ohio State Parks Foundation, also spoke to the group. Formed in 2021, the mission of the parks foundation is to enhance visitors’ experiences at state parks by partnering with individuals, corporations, and other entities to support innovative projects that educate park visitors, increase inclusivity, support sustainability, and promote health and wellness. Their projects focus on accessibility, visitor education, and environmental preservation to ensure these public spaces remain accessible to all.
