The Ottawa County Business Advisory Council welcomed three high school seniors who successfully completed the Career Engagement Opportunities (CEO) Internship Program during the 2017 school year. On June 2, each student gave a presentation to the BAC about their internship experience and how it has helped shape their future education and career goals, a requirement of the CEO Internship Program.
Career Interest: Marketing
Internship Site: Catawba Island Club
Valuable Experiences Gained: learned how to utilize different marketing channels, and a variety of software to develop and distribute materials; develop print and digital materials for various uses; and graphic design fundamentals.
Career Interest: Legal Studies
Internship Site: Ottawa County Court of Common Pleas – Probation Court
Valuable Experiences Gained: Working in Judge Winters’ court; participated in and assisted with Mental Health and Drug Court Treatment Team meetings and Review Hearings, observed Court hearings, worked on various court projects, researched drug and alcohol addiction and treatment options for participants in Drug Court and Mental Health Court, and assisted in Mental Health and Drug Court interviews and appointments.
Career Interest: Law Enforcement
Internship Site: Port Clinton Police Department & Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office
Valuable Experiences Gained: Participated in patrol ride alongs, interacted with police training and equipment exercises, learned about specific weapons and observed traffic stops.
The CEO Internship Program provides students with opportunities to “test the waters” of a desired occupation. Students engage in the daily work environments of local employers, practice career development, and prepare for employment all while earning high school credit. The program is available for Ottawa County High School Junior and Senior students.
