The Ottawa County Workforce Hub for Career Advancement (the Hub) is workforce initiative that stems from the Ottawa County Business Advisory Council. The Hub equips students with direct pathways to secure, high-paying careers, enhancing the local workforce and boosting the regional economy.
Currently, the Hub is designed to provide students with the skills and training through two core programs: Ottawa County Skilled Trades Academy and Ottawa County Healthcare Careers Academy. A third program is in the works with a launch date of August 2025: Ottawa County Hospitality & Tourism Academy.

$1.5 MILLION TO EXPAND WORKFORCE PROGRAMS
In June 2024, the Ohio State Senate allocated $700 million through SB 288 to support statewide initiatives via the one-time Strategic Community Investments fund. Among the projects, $1.5 million was secured for the expansion of the Ottawa County Skilled Trades Academy and Healthcare Careers Academy, administered by the Ottawa County Business Advisory Council. This funding will support the remodel of an old school building and the purchase of program equipment to enhance these local workforce initiatives.
FUTURE GOALS
The Hub’s primary focus is to develop and enhance the skills of our high school students, guiding them in exploring and defining their career pathways. However, we also understand the importance of strengthening and building upon the skills of our current workforce, which serves as the foundation of our local and regional economy. By collaborating with businesses and partners, we aim to provide access to high-quality training opportunities. Our dedication to local workforce development inspires us to grow, adapt, and foster collaboration, driving positive change and ensuring the continued success of our community.
