Visitors to Port Clinton have the option to stay in a brand new hotel with scenic views of Lake Erie.
The Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott opened its 86 rooms to guests last week. The hotel offers several amenities including free breakfast, spacious rooms, a heated indoor pool, a workout room and more. But it’s biggest draw is its location on Lake Erie, featuring a fishing pier. The hotel took advantage of the lake with 46 rooms, the pool, the breakfast area, the patio and the workout room all offering scenic view of the lake.
“What makes us unique is that we are right on the water,” general manager Stephen Williams said. “We wanted to showcase the beauty of Lake Erie and we’re just proud to be apart of the community.”
The brand new building was built at the former location of the Travelodge on Perry Street near the Ohio 2 exit. The new hotel was the byproduct of an $8 million investment by Rar Hospitality, which saw the location as sitting at a key point for tourism along the Lake Erie shore.
The construction of the four-story building began last year and it is the first newly built hotel in Port Clinton in 19 years, according to Williams. It was completed last month, just in time for the tourism season in Ottawa County, and had its first day of operation on May 7.
Despite opening recently, the hotel is already getting quite a few guests. They have several corporate parties and weddings booked for summer and fall.
“They’ve started to come in really fast and every day there’s more,” assistant general manager Ali Chapman said. But Williams said the hotel hopes to be able to attract guests outside the tourist season by bringing in corporate events.
The hotel offers four types of rooms: queen double, king, queen double suite and king suite. Each room includes a smart TV which enables guests to log in to their Netflix accounts to stream shows or movies. Marriott is one of the largest hotel companies in the world and has 30 Fairfield Inn & Suites franchises in the country.
